The Leadership Odyssey: From Darkness to Light

The purpose of writing this book has been to enable leaders and various role holders to embark on their journey of moving from darkness to light, in order to live and lead consciously. The primary thrust and accent of this work is self-level transformation.
To lead consciously and become a fully functional and productive leader, the journey of self-transformation is a necessary prerequisite. This is, however, possible only by becoming fully aware of one's self and understanding the purpose of one's existence. This has been powerfully articulated by Nathaniel Branden —Know Thyself, Own Thyself and Change Thyself.

After much deliberation among ourselves and also after discussing with some thinkers and scholars on leadership, we decided to title this book Odyssey to Leadership: Front Darkness to Light. The term 'odyssey' has been used because it symbolizes a long journey, characterized by overcoming difficulties and obstacles, and by vanquishing enemies before reaching one's destination. Viewing the journey as an odyssey becomes relevant when we view the dilemma of being a human and at the same time of being continually jostled by the dualities of one's own nature—good and evil, angels and demons, tamoguna and satoguna as well as ignorance and enlightenment. The Leadership Odyssey, therefore, represents the inner quest and journey to move from darkness to light and from toxicity to virtuousness. Thus, it is a process of moving from the grip of unconscious conspiracies to living and leading consciously.

Therefore, the key focus of this work is to delve deeper and throwing some light on the leader's odyssey from unconscious to conscious living and leading as well as on tapping the positive potential which lies within the unconscious self. We hope that this book will inspire those who hold leadership positions, as well as those who aspire to become leaders.
